Cataracts

What are cataracts? A cataract is a clouding that develops over the lens of the eye. Cataracts progressively get worse over time and if left untreated can cause blindness.

My dog Kirby had cataracts. I didn't know what they were, I just saw the form. Not much you can do with a dog and their eyesight, at least nothing that is feasible. But what about humans?

There is no known scientifically proven way to prevent getting cataracts. Though wearing ultra-violet preventing sunglasses may slow the development. Also regular taking of antioxidanty, which many swear on, hasn't been proven to help.

Cataract surgery has proven successful in removing cataracts from the eye. Usually the surgery is on an out patient basis with a local anaesthetic.
